Scioscia and Moreno: A Team Made in Heaven
Meet Arte Moreno: ambitious, businessman and regular Joe (“His Devilish Vision,†by Bill Shaikin, April 4). Meet Mike Scioscia: ambitious, businessman and regular Joe. What a great combination! Finally, just what Orange County and the Angel organization need!

I have been an Angel fan for more than 30 years. I salute Moreno’s plans for creating a more positive environment at the ballpark. However, I disagree with his decision to lower the price of beer. It is difficult for many to associate cheap beer with a pro-family environment. Moreno has worked hard to focus on building a team and attracting fans. I hope that he can increase the focus on the game rather than on the drinks.

Los Angeles is the Dodgers’ town. Period. Even after 15 years of bitter losses, the Dodgers still matter more in L.A. than the Angels could ever dream of duplicating with “branding.†“Marketing 101†is fine, cheap beer pleases drinkers and signing top-tier free agents is just dandy, but Moreno’s deal only goes so far. The World Series was special for Anaheim, but by November 2002, no one outside Orange County really cared. You see more New York Yankees caps around Los Angeles today than you do the haloed variety.
