Ennis Brown home on endangered list
The World Monuments Fund has announced its watch list of the 100 most endangered sites, which includes Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ennis Brown House in Los Feliz.
Built in 1924 and evocative of Maya design, the house is built of decomposed granite, a precarious material, and was damaged by the 1994 Northridge earthquake. The house is now being rehabilitated.
“A great deal more is needed to complete seismic retrofitting and to stabilize the house,†the fund’s news release said.
The watch list ranges from 11th century Afghan towers endangered by the country’s political instability to an Irish abbey, dedicated to St. Edmund, pummeled by centuries of rain.
The six U.S. sites include the swath of Lower Manhattan damaged by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and a 16th century Gothic church in Puerto Rico.
