Tauzin Backs Deadline on Number Portability
- Share via
Rep. W.J. “Billy” Tauzin, the House Energy and Commerce Committee chairman, said he supported the government’s Nov. 24 deadline for mobile-telephone companies to let customers keep their phone number when switching providers.
In February 2002, the Louisiana Republican asked the Federal Communications Commission to extend the November 2002 deadline for “number portability.” The FCC later granted wireless companies a one-year delay.
John Muleta, the FCC’s top official for wireless matters, said that no carrier had told the FCC it wouldn’t be ready for number portability on Nov. 24.
