Frank G. Mautte, 88; Fordham Hall of Famer, 1936 Captain

Frank G. Mautte, the captain of Fordham University’s football team during the time of the famed Seven Blocks of Granite defensive line, has died. He was 88.
Mautte, who lived in the Detroit suburb of Troy, died Tuesday at the Troy branch of William Beaumont Hospital. Mautte, a halfback, was the captain of the Rams during the 1936 season, the last one for the defensive line with the famous nickname. The Rams were 12-1-3 with eight shutouts in their two seasons. Mautte was inducted into Fordham’s Hall of Fame in the 1980s.
Mautte, who was born in Hamden, Conn., served as an Army Air Forces major during World War II. He retired in 1979 from Chrysler Crop., where his titles included personnel director for its North American and U.S. Automotive Manufacturing Group.
