Haze Blamed on Wind, Dry Soils and Tilling

From Times Wire Reports

The haze that covered the Central Valley like a warm brown sock Wednesday afternoon had nothing to do with the fires burning in Southern California, meteorologists said.

The unhealthy fog was a result of dry soils, windy conditions and tilling going on, said Michael Bingham, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford.

Winds swept down the Interstate 5 corridor at 20 mph to 35 mph, carrying dust that darkened the sky over Fresno, Clovis and Corcoran. The air was unhealthy for sensitive people.
