Cubs Coverage Leaves Readers Wondering

Enough with the Cubs coverage! Stop with the curses and goats and interfering fans. A front-page photo and story Oct. 15 and a photo Oct. 16 have me wondering why what happens in the Windy City seems so important to Times editors. Is it because the Times and the Cubs are part of the same corporate family? Imagine the turmoil for Times editors if the Dodgers ever played the Cubs in the National League championship series.

Thursday morning when my 7-year-old son brought in the paper, he read aloud the headline “3 Americans Die in Bomb Attack in Gaza.†Then he saw the photo of the crying woman next to it and asked if she was crying for the people who died. How strange it sounded when I told him no, that she was crying because the Cubs didn’t make it to the World Series. Kind of puts things in perspective, doesn’t it?
