Lawyers offer handbook with advice for fire victims
Fire-ravaged Californians who are trying to put their homes and lives back together may find useful information in “Helping Handbook,†a 72-page overview produced by lawyers at Morrison & Foerster in conjunction with seven bar associations.
The handbook addresses everything from temporary housing to replacing a VCR or burned computer.
It includes how to file an unemployment claim, what to do if creditors keep calling you and how to shop around for home loans.
“We did similar helping handbooks after the 9/11 tragedy that were widely distributed and translated into several languages,†said Anthony Press, the managing partner of Morrison & Foerster’s Century City office and chairman of the firm’s pro bono committee. The firm’s New York office produced the other handbooks after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The new handbook is available at local assistance and disaster relief centers, the American Red Cross, state and local bar associations and other legal assistance centers, the Scripps Ranch Library in San Diego and the San Bernardino Mayor’s Office.
The handbook is also available online at: www.mofo.com/about/socalfirehelp/.
