Worker, 30, Killed in Cement Mixer Accident

A 30-year-old Oxnard man died Friday night after his legs were severed in a cement mixing machine, authorities said Saturday.

Juan Manuel Vasquez was doing maintenance work inside the machine when for unknown reasons it activated and dragged him into a loading chute, authorities said.

The accident occurred about 10:45 a.m. Friday at Team Transit Mix in the 500 block of Diaz Avenue in Oxnard.

Vasquez was conscious and talking during his 20-minute rescue by firefighters but died about 6 p.m. during surgery at a local hospital.
