Nursing Homes Cited, Fined in Patient Deaths
Two Northern California nursing homes have been cited and fined for the deaths of patients.
The state Department of Health Services issued an “AA†citation, its most severe, and a $60,000 fine to the Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center of Petaluma. The citation is linked to an incident two years ago in which a 76-year-old patient caught fire while smoking in her wheelchair. She died a day later.
Evergreen administrator Vince Hambright said the citation was being appealed.
The Pleasant Care Convalescent facility in Ukiah also received an “AA†citation and $60,000 fine in the death of a 54-year-old male patient.
