* Walt Disney Co. said it named Andrew Bird as president of Walt Disney International to coordinate efforts to expand in markets outside the U.S. Bird has been president of Time Warner Inc.’s TBS International since 2000.
* Long’s Drug Stores Inc. reported fiscal third-quarter net income of $5.2 million, or 14 cents a share, compared with $3 million, or 8 cents, a year earlier. Sales rose 2% to $1.09 billion. The Walnut Creek, Calif.-based chain said the Southern California grocery strike contributed 1 cent per share to earnings.
* Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. reported a third-quarter net loss of $105.9 million and restated results from 1998 to the second quarter of this year. The loss was 60 cents a share, contrasted with restated net income of $32.7 million, or 20 cents, a year earlier. Sales rose 11% to $3.91 billion. Goodyear said the Securities and Exchange Commission was investigating circumstances that led to the restatements, announced in October.
* Petco Animal Supplies Inc. said third-quarter earnings rose to $19.2 million, or 33 cents a share, from $12 million, or 21 cents, a year earlier. Sales rose 13% to $415.3 million.
