Man Last Seen in Channel Islands Harbor Is Found Dead Off Coast
The body of a man last seen aboard a dinghy in Channel Islands Harbor over the weekend was found Tuesday submerged in 10 feet of water off the Ventura County coast, apparently the victim of a drowning, authorities said.
The 50-year-old man, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was found about a mile from a sailboat where he had visited with friends, authorities said.
He was last seen about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, paddling away from the sailboat in a dinghy.
On Monday, the victim’s small craft was discovered abandoned in the ocean, his jacket floating on the surface.
On Tuesday, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department search-and-rescue dive team recovered his body, authorities said.
