From Times Wire Reports
More than 900 Kern County residents have tested positive for valley fever this year, the third year in a row that the fungal disease has hit epidemic levels, officials said.
The disease can strike most parts of the body, but it normally affects the lungs. In more than half the cases, there are no obvious symptoms, and the disease runs its course without serious damage. In some cases, however, it can turn serious, especially if it attacks the lining of the brain.
