Touch-Screen Machines to Be Put to Early Test

New touch-screen voting machines will be available for Santa Clara County voters in today’s elections.
The county isn’t required to abandon punch-card voting until the presidential primary election in March, but election officials said they wanted to use this smaller local election -- which will involve 279 of the county’s more than 900 precincts -- to test the touch-screen system.
