Pacheco Considers Run for District Attorney
Former City Councilman Nick Pacheco announced Monday that he is considering running against Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley for the county’s top prosecutor position.
Pacheco represented the 14th District on the Eastside from 1999 until this year, when he lost his bid for reelection to former Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa. Pacheco said that Cooley told the voters what they wanted to hear, but that he has not proved to be a strong leader for the county.
Pacheco acknowledged that he is close friends with Art Gastelum, the lobbyist and businessman who was the subject of district attorney’s office investigation into allegations of bribery and corruption.
“In my experience, [Gastelum] has been forthright and honest with me,†Pacheco said.
