Matchup: Baseball America says the Indians have the best young talent in the major leagues, but that hasn’t mollified Cleveland fans, who have deserted Jacobs Field in droves rather than pay top dollar to watch the growing pains of a youth movement. The Indians began the weekend 0-8 against the American League West, and had two losses to the Angels in which they were outscored, 16-3, and outhit, 26-12. Closer Danys Baez started the weekend with no saves in 23 days.

Opponent: Toronto Blue Jays

Series: Friday, 7 p.m.; Saturday, 7 p.m.; Sunday, 1 p.m.

Site: Edison Field.

Matchup: Toronto first baseman Carlos Delgado began the weekend leading the American League in runs batted in and ranked among league leaders in batting average, on-base percentage, runs and home runs. The sophomore season has not been kind to third baseman Eric Hinske. The 2002 AL rookie of the year hit .245 with one home run in April. The Blue Jays lost 107, 102 and 109 games in their first three seasons, but never had they finished April 11 1/2 games out of first place. Until this year, that is.
