General Mills Profit Surges in Quarter

General Mills Inc. said third-quarter profit almost tripled, helped by the 2001 acquisition of Pillsbury.
Net income climbed to $240 million, or 63 cents a share, from $82 million, or 22 cents, a year earlier. Revenue rose 11% to $2.65 billion.
Shares of the Minneapolis-based company rose 5 cents to $44.93 on the NYSE.
