Smolinski Says He’s Not Bitter
Jettisoned a week ago at the trade deadline, Bryan Smolinski plays for the Ottawa Senators now, but that doesn’t mean his time with the Kings is finished.
The deal brought the Kings the rights to defenseman Tim Gleason, a 20-year-old former first-round draft pick who is playing junior hockey in Windsor, Canada, but they could wind up with Smolinski, too. If the veteran forward is not re-signed by the Senators, he will be an unrestricted free agent July 1.
“I would welcome anything when it comes to July 1,†Smolinski said Monday from Raleigh, N.C., where the Senators will play the Carolina Hurricanes tonight. “If it’s the Kings, that would be great. We still live there. It was tough to leave.â€
Asked if he harbored ill will toward the Kings, who traded him after realizing he was not interested in the short-term deals they had proposed, Smolinski said, “I don’t have a sour taste in my mouth. Not at all.â€
