PARADE
Sea of green patriotism
Celebrants and shamrocks will fill downtown Ventura on Saturday for the 15th offering of the County Ventura St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The procession begins at Mission Park on Main Street, across from San Buenaventura Mission, and continues to its conclusion at Laurel Street. Traditional green will be in competition with red, white and blue as the parade’s theme, “A Salute to Old Glory,†will honor the U.S. flag. Grand marshal duties will be handled by U.S. Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley). An Irish celebration, with entertainment and corned beef ‘n’ cabbage, will follow the parade at Ventura Elks Lodge.

A date with an opera great
Lauded for her title roles in “Carmen†and “Samson et Dalila,†American mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves will sing Tuesday for the final installment of ArtAbounds, a performance series presented by UC Santa Barbara Arts & Lectures and the Lobero Theatre. Graves will offer works by Brahms, Dowland, Handel, Purcell, Saint-Saens and others, plus traditional spirituals. Warren Jones will be the accompanist.
