San Jose Remains in First Place
San Jose goalkeeper Pat Onstad stopped Igor Simutenkov of the Kansas City Wizards from close range in the final minutes of regulation, and a scoreless tie Saturday at San Jose in front of 7,817 helped the Earthquakes retain the MLS Western Conference lead.
San Jose improved to 6-2-4, and stayed one point ahead of Kansas City (5-2-6).
Kansas City played the last 8 minutes 58 seconds of regulation and the overtime period with 10 men after defender Nick Garcia was ejected with his second yellow card.
Chicago 2, New York-New Jersey 1 -- Ante Razov scored in overtime to help the Fire (6-3-3) win in front of 12,690 at Naperville, Ill. and regain first place in the Eastern Conference.
Razov, who leads the MLS with nine goals, scored off an assist from DaMarcus Beasley. The Fire leads the MetroStars (6-4-2) by one point for first place in the Eastern Conference.
New England 3, Colorado 2 -- Colorado defender Wes Hart headed the ball into his own goal in the 84th minute to give the Revolution (5-4-3) the win in front of 15,839 at Foxboro, Mass. New England tied it in the 80th minute on Taylor Twellman’s seventh goal of the season.
Columbus 3, D.C. United 0 -- Brian West’s goal and assist helped the Crew (5-5-3) win before 16,489 at Columbus, Ohio.
