Martha Stewart Has a Photo Session and Creates Some Prints -- for the FBI

NEW YORK — Martha Stewart quietly paid a visit to the FBI’s Manhattan headquarters for a mug shot and fingerprinting session, federal officials said Tuesday.
Stewart, indicted last week on charges of securities fraud and lying to federal investigators after she sold shares in biotech company Imclone Systems Inc. just before the price fell, was processed Monday and freed without bail.
The woman who built a catering business into Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. arrived at the FBI office via a street normally closed to traffic. Typically defendants must appear in court to listen to rules and procedures and to sign paperwork.
“It’s something we have done in the past. It’s not unusual,” a spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office said of the discreet way Stewart was handled.
The spokesman said similar arrangements have been made in high-profile cases in which officials see little risk of flight. Under a court order, Stewart may travel freely within the United States and also can make trips overseas if she gives officials 72 hours notice.
