Goodyear Posts Loss of $74 Million in Quarter

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. reported a $73.6-million loss in the second quarter because of high raw material expenses and the costs of layoffs.
The loss of 42 cents a share contrasts with earnings of $28.9 million, or 18 cents, in the same quarter a year ago. Sales rose 8% to $3.8 billion.
Goodyear shares rose 37 cents to $5.54 on the NYSE.
