ABC Loses in Battle of the Ratings
The overnight Nielsen rating for the “Battle of the Bridges,†ABC’s prime-time golf telecast featuring Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia, was the lowest in the five-year history of the made-for-television series.
The 4.8 rating, which does not include the Memphis and Phoenix markets, was down 9% from last year’s 5.3. The Woods-Garcia match in 2000 had the highest rating of 8.6, but it dipped to 5.9 in 2001. The first match in the series, Woods-David Duval, had a 7.4 rating in 1999.
Mickelson and Garcia defeated Woods and Els, 3 and 1, Monday night at Rancho Santa Fe.
