Immigrant Smuggler Convicted of Murder

An immigrant smuggler who was in a crowded pickup that crashed during a high-speed pursuit has been convicted of second-degree murder in the deaths of three passengers.
Anselmo Pedroza, 30, was not driving the truck when it crashed into a bridge abutment on Interstate 8 east of San Diego in January.
But prosecutors told a San Diego County Superior Court jury that Pedroza bore responsibility for encouraging the driver to flee Border Patrol agents.
