From Times Staff Reports
Ventura County Sheriff Bob Brooks said Thursday he planned to close the East County Jail on Aug. 17, a move intended to reduce costs in his department.
Brooks has already closed the women’s facility near Ojai, transferring its 200 inmates to the Main Jail in Ventura. That saved about $4.6 million.
In a press release, Brooks said shuttering the east county holding cells in Thousand Oaks would save another $800,000 annually. Deputies book about 3,500 people there each year.
Arrestees will now be immediately transported to the Main Jail, Brooks said.
