Anticipating the closure of a 198-space parking lot at the North Hollywood Red Line subway station, transit officials are asking motorists to instead use another lot nearby or to start taking buses.

The subway station lot, at the northwest corner of Lankershim and Chandler boulevards, will close July 26 to accommodate construction of the new San Fernando Valley Rapidway, a bus corridor that will connect transferring subway riders to Warner Center in Woodland Hills.

In the meantime, drivers unable to find parking in one of the remaining 900 spaces at the North Hollywood station may park at a 325-space lot at the corner of Ventura Boulevard and the Campo de Cahuenga freeway overpass.

That lot, which is little used right now, is a three-minute walk from the Universal City subway station, said Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman Dave Sotero.

Riders who wish to continue using the North Hollywood subway stop may also take the 152, 154, 156, 166 or 426 bus lines to reach the station.

The Rapidway will eventually provide an additional 3,300 parking spaces between North Hollywood and Woodland Hills, according to the MTA.

The agency is also negotiating with L.A. to provide additional parking at the North Hollywood station.
