Southwest Chamber Music has brought out Vol. 1 of a projected four-volume set of the chamber music of Carlos Chavez. The series would represent the first complete recordings of the Mexican composer’s chamber output.
The disc released Tuesday by Cambria Master Recordings includes three Inventions plus a suite and piece for solo oboe.
The Pasadena-based chamber group will play a free concert featuring works by Chavez, Haydn and Mozart on Friday at 7 p.m. at La Plaza United Methodist Church, 115 Paseo de la Plaza in downtown Los Angeles.
