A home health-care worker for an elderly couple rescued them from their burning house early Saturday, fire officials said.
Angel Medina found the 88-year-old woman’s bed on fire about 4:30 a.m. and pulled her from the flames, authorities said.
He called 911, carried her outside the house in the 6900 block of Colbath Avenue and returned for her husband, who was asleep on a sofa. The man could not get up and Medina could not lift him, but stayed by his side until firefighters arrived, said Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey. Crews extinguished the flames in 10 minutes.
Investigators said a faulty heating pad had ignited the fire.
