Sony Reports Record Sales of PlayStation 2

Sony Corp. said it sold a record 5 million PlayStation 2 game consoles in November and December.
Sony has sold 17.2 million PS2s in North America since the console was introduced in October 2000.
Consumers also snapped up 1 million original PlayStation consoles at $49 apiece.
Microsoft Corp., which makes a competing console called Xbox, and Nintendo Co., maker of the GameCube and the GameBoy Advance hand-held console, are expected to release holiday sales data next week.
