Luvah Girl Has Preference

If the $100,000 La Habra Stakes remains on the turf, Luvah Girl is the one to beat.

If, however, the race is moved to the main track because of the recent rain, anything could happen in the ungraded race.

Owned by Barry Irwin and Jeff Siegel’s Team Valor and trained by Jenine Sahadi, Luvah Girl will be making her United States debut in the La Habra, which is scheduled for about 6 1/2 furlongs on the grass and is the fifth leg of a pick six with a carry-over of $88,809.

She won two of five in her native England, including a Group II at Newmarket in her final start in Europe Oct. 19. She has some sharp workouts for her comeback, but don’t expect her to run if the race is moved to the main track.

Should the La Habra be run on dirt, Point Clear becomes the filly to fear most. She has won two of three starts, the latest coming after she was transferred to the barn of Dave Hofmans after being purchased privately by Amerman Racing.

Race of the day: Gal O Gal, winner of four in a row and five of six in her career on turf, was among 13 3-year-old fillies entered in the $65,000-added Gaily Gaily at Gulfstream Park at 1 1/8 miles on the grass. Who’s hot: Denise Schmidt. The trainer won with seven of her first 20 starters at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans.

Who’s not: John Candlin. The New York-based trainer is winless in 46 at Aqueduct.

Exotically speaking: An exacta box in the sixth using Certain Act, Jink Williams and Shadow Thief.
