Sheriff’s Pledge

Regarding citizen oversight over the Sheriff’s Department, special counsel Merrick Bobb needs to improve in certain areas of his work, as we all do (editorial, Feb. 20). The Sheriff’s Department will be an open organization as much as the law will allow. We will strive to rid ourselves of bureaucratic excuses that could hinder our vast services to the public, courts and criminal justice system.

We will also defend the civil rights of those we serve, especially the homeless and mentally ill, who are frequently forgotten.
