From Staff and Wire Reports
Because of looming state budget cuts, schools chief Debbie Flores recommends eliminating at least 58 positions -- including custodians, librarians, health clerks, teachers and assistant principals.
She estimates that the layoffs would save $4 million in the upcoming school year.
Flores presented her 30-item list of cuts during a Tuesday night school board meeting at which dozens of speakers urged the board to spare programs in its budget deliberations.
The proposed cuts reflect a 4% reduction in spending in the district’s $100-million budget.
