SUV Strikes, Injures Officer Aiding Motorist
A California Highway Patrol officer was injured by a suspected drunk driver early Sunday on the Alameda Street offramp of the northbound Hollywood Freeway as he was aiding a motorist whose car had stalled.
The officer, 33, was listed in stable condition at County-USC Medical Center after a fast-moving white Ford Expedition drove over flares and onto the narrow shoulder where he stood, officers said. The SUV threw the officer at least 30 feet, and hit two parked cars before rolling over.
Its driver, Jorge Gil, 50, of North Hollywood was not hurt; he was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, they said.
