How Can Parents Forget Those Dearest to Them?
Re “When a Child Dies in Hot Car, Jail Rare,†Aug. 12:
I understand that losing a child is a horrible pain that no parent should endure. But how do you forget that the love of your life is in the backseat? Even if the child is asleep, are you not constantly thinking of him or her? Maybe I speak only for myself, but my child is never out of my mind.
Jail time for being absent-minded? Maybe. I would find it similar to the parent who forgets to close the door under the sink where the cleaners are kept, or the parents who forget they have a pool.
I call it carelessness and I call it neglect and I call it unfair to the child.
