Disability Fraud Brings 2-Year Prison Sentence

An Irvine man was sentenced Monday to two years in federal prison for making bogus disability claims and preparing false income tax returns, officials said.
Elton Leander Barnes Jr., 40, also was ordered to pay $25,000 in restitution, said Gary Tang, spokesman for the Internal Revenue Service.
Barnes pleaded guilty in December. He claimed he was disabled due to psoriasis and filed at least 21 fraudulent income tax returns that netted him more than $65,000, Tang said.
