Gregory Hines

I was saddened to learn of the death of Gregory Hines (obituary, Aug. 11). Though he attained worldwide fame for his dancing and acting, I want to thank him for his music with the Venice-based band Severance. As a mid-’70s student at UCLA, I spent many hours listening to their terrific music during free on-campus concerts. They were a wonderful oasis during the dark days of disco. Thanks, Gregory.
