Desert oasis at the Hyatt
JAMES T. Yenckel’s “Oases of Luxury in the Desert†(Oct. 6) left out the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale at Gainey Ranch, for years an all-time favorite resort. Room rates run $440 and more in high season, but only in the mid-$100s in summer. There are 10 connecting swimming pools, one with a sandy beach and a terrific water slide.
The restaurants are outstanding. With the price of an Italian dinner at the Sandolo comes a free ride for each diner on a gondola in the enchanting lagoon separating the resort’s desert gardens from its golf course. The gondoliers, music majors at local universities, sing arias.
There is live entertainment each night, a Native American learning center with three Hopis on staff, and free bicycles available for the bike trails.
