Lucrative Pool to Be Had

If the Breeders’ Cup ultra pick six wasn’t enough for you, there is another potentially lucrative pool to shoot for today.

Nobody has hit the pick six in the first three days of the Aqueduct meet, so there is a carryover of more than $221,000 for today. There was no pick six at the New York track Saturday because Aqueduct had only five live races.

The pick six begins with the third race and ends with the eighth, which is the $75,000 Pilgrim Stakes for 2-year-olds. The race is scheduled for 1 1/8 miles on the turf, but it rained Saturday, so the Pilgrim might be run on the dirt.

There is another stakes in the sequence. Fifteen 2-year-old fillies were entered in the $75,000 Miss Grillo, also at 1 1/8 miles on the grass.

If the Miss Grillo stays on the turf, One And Twenty, who is two for two on the lawn, may be the one to beat.

Today also marks the start of Churchill Downs’ fall meet. The main event is the $100,000 Ack Ack Handicap, a Grade III at 7 1/2 furlongs.

Binthebest, who has won four of seven over the track, is the one to beat under jockey Jon Court.

Race of the day: Dance Dreamer will try for his first graded stakes victory against only five rivals in the $150,000 Carleton F. Burke Handicap at Santa Anita. The Burke goes at 1 1/2 miles on the grass.

Who’s hot: Pat Day. The jockey won another riding title at Keeneland and is the odds-on choice to keep it going at Churchill Downs.

Who’s not: Ryan Morris and Caesar Bisono. The jockeys, through Friday, were a combined seven for 157 at Bay Meadows.

Exotically speaking: Exacta boxes keying Captian Bell in the fifth with Kinetic Bend, Treasure Hunt and Olympic Success.
