Bum Rap

As offensive as I find bum fighting, what I feel is more offensive is our treating the homeless as children needing our protection by prosecuting the filmmakers (“Fight Videos Spark Outcry, Charges,� Sept. 29). Why is it permissible for persons to do disgusting things on reality TV shows, but homeless persons are not being permitted to earn extra money? We don’t prevent non-homeless persons from participating in martial arts, boxing, wrestling and kick-boxing. If we are really concerned about the homeless, allow bum fighting but require the filmmakers to pay a decent wage and cover medical costs.
