Fox Seeks Change From Business as Usual
Re “Fox Targets Graft in Mexico Oil Monopoly†and “Officers Charged in Mexico’s ‘Dirty War,’ †Sept. 28: Much praise should be given to Mexican President Vicente Fox for the human rights investigations of earlier presidencies--and also watch to see if those indicted serve any prison time. Much praise for taking on the oil workers union and the Pemex conglomerate: The oil is a national treasure, not the private bank of Pemex and union officials.
Also, much praise to Fox for his move from the national socialist state, begun after the last revolution in the 1920s, to a democratic capitalist system. Still open is the Mexican federal government’s ability to enforce free elections in all of its states, where the Institutional Revolutionary Party is still destroying ballots that reflect the people’s desire for change.
