Global sales of semiconductors rose 2.2% in August from July and rose 14% from August a year ago, figures that show the beleaguered industry is tracking a broadly based upturn, a trade group said.
The 14% increase in August, to $11.9 billion, from the same month a year ago was the first double-digit increase from the industry’s cyclical low in 2001, the worst-ever year for the chip industry, the Semiconductor Industry Assn. said.
