Suspected Stalker Killed by Police
A man wanted in connection with a Huntington Beach stalking case was shot and killed Friday by a Seal Beach police officer he was trying to run over in a parking lot, authorities said.
“They ordered him out of his vehicle, he refused to comply, put it in reverse and rammed one of our police cars,†said Cpl. Joe Miller, a spokesman for the Seal Beach Police Department. “Then he put it in drive and attempted to run over one of our officers, who responded by shooting ... multiple times, ultimately wounding him fatally.â€
The man, who was not identified pending notification of relatives, was declared dead at the scene, Miller said. The name of the officer also was not released.
The confrontation occurred about 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the Old Ranch Town Center, a shopping mall at the intersection of Seal Beach Boulevard and St. Cloud Drive, Miller said.
Officers had been summoned to the location by a report that the man -- identified as a person wanted for stalking and making threats in Huntington Beach -- had been seen there. Miller declined to say who made the call.
There were no other injuries, he said.
The incident is being investigated by the county district attorney’s office -- as are all officer-involved shootings -- as well as the Seal Beach Police Department, Miller said.
