Musiq Debuts Ahead of Hill
Musiq, the neo-soul singer formerly known as Musiq Soulchild, entered the nation’s album chart at No. 1 on Wednesday, easily outpacing Lauryn Hill’s long-awaited follow-up to her 1998 Grammy winner “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.â€
The Philadelphia native’s “Juslisen†sold 260,000 copies in its first week in stores, more than doubling the 122,000 sales of Hill’s “MTV Unplugged No. 2.0,†a mostly acoustic set of new tunes.
The other positions in the top 10 are held, in order, by Celine Dion, Ashanti, Kenny Chesney, the “Spider-Man†soundtrack, Sheryl Crow, the Big Tymers, Vol. 9 of “Now That’s What I Call Music†and the “O Brother, Where Art Thou?†soundtrack.
Two new albums by Tom Waits entered the charts at No. 32 and No. 33, suggesting that the singer’s fans bought both “Blood Money†and “Alice.†The best-selling single remains ‘N Sync’s pairing with Nelly on “Girlfriend.â€
