At Slobodan Milosevic’s war crimes trial in The Hague, Kosovo’s provincial president, Ibrahim Rugova, accused the former Yugoslav president of unleashing a brutal campaign of “ethnic cleansing” in Kosovo in 1999.
Rugova, who led a campaign of passive resistance by Kosovo’s ethnic Albanian majority against Milosevic’s rule in the 1990s, blamed the Serbian massacres of ethnic Albanians on Milosevic.
Meanwhile, former Yugoslav Deputy Prime Minister Nikola Sainovic pleaded not guilty at the tribunal to charges of participating in the alleged 1999 terror campaign.
