Clarifying Holidays

Re the March 26 letter by Deborah Nakamoto, on combining Veterans Day and Memorial Day into one holiday: It is a very bad idea. They do not both honor the same veterans, as she suggests. On Veterans Day we honor all the men and women who served our country in the armed forces. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those brave men and women who fought for our country but did not return home alive.
We need to keep these two days separate, for each is equally important to the history of our nation. I would go further and say that having only two days of remembrance is not nearly enough for the price paid by those we honor on each of these days.
