An Islamic court in Pakistan overturned the conviction of a woman who was to be stoned to death for adultery.
The Federal Shariat Court ordered Zafran Bibi, 28, released after her husband, Niamat Khan, said a girl born to her was his child.
A judge in the northwestern city of Kohat convicted Bibi of adultery last month and sentenced her to death after the girl was born to her while Khan, convicted in a murder case, was in jail.
Bibi’s conviction sparked protests from human rights groups. She challenged it, saying she became pregnant after meeting her husband in jail.
