Sign Of Lanty Hopes to Break Streak
Less than two weeks after he was the beaten favorite for a third consecutive time, Sign Of Lanty will be a very short price to get back in the winner’s circle tonight.
Arguably the best 870-yard specialist, the 8-year-old gelding drew the outside post in a small field of five in the fifth, a $12,900 allowance.
Owned by Jackie or Rod Macpherson Jr. and trained by John Cooper, Sign Of Lanty will be ridden by Eddie Garcia while trying to halt a losing streak that began at Sunland Park and continued May 25 at Los Alamitos.
If the California-bred wins, it would give him 25 victories in 58 lifetime starts and push his career earnings over $430,000.
From the inside out, his opponents will be: Rare Mink, who hasn’t won since July 19, Dashin With Johnny, who hasn’t run since finishing third behind Sign Of Lanty on Feb. 2, Timothy Pilot and Coolmore, who has won two in a row for trainer Laura Lukas since being stretched out to 870 yards. A gelded son of Carson City, Coolmore will be ridden by Alex Bautista.
The picks: 1. Sheza Mighty Bobby. 2. Isolation. 3. Reed And Right. 4. Bolt Ta Fame. 5. Sign Of Lanty. 6. Apollian. 7. Reeking Havoc. 8. Gary Johnson.
Four! Use Sheza Mighty Bobby and Lanes Fortune in the first; the Isolation-Control Freak entry, Chicks Jet Set Baby and Banduino Miss in the second; Reed And Right, Kid Unit, the Lotsalack-Daves Best Man entry and Yuuba Jr in the third, and single Bolt Ta Fame in the fourth.
Shots in the dark: Dashin Mystery Man gets a new rider in Ramon Sanchez and drops in class in the sixth. Double Timen tries lesser in his first start of the year for trainer Adan Farias in the eighth.
Post time: 7:15 p.m.
