Those who believe Street Cry will win the Breeders’ Cup Classic and Azeri will be dominant in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff can now back their opinions with cash.
Future book wagering on those two Breeders’ Cup races and the Sprint is being offered around the country and will continue through 4 p.m. Sunday. The Breeders’ Cup will be run Oct. 26 at Arlington Park.
Only win betting is being offered on the three races. Street Cry was listed as the 6-1 favorite in the Classic and Azeri was the 5-1 choice in the Distaff.
Kona Gold, who will be favored to win Saturday’s Triple Bend Breeders’ Cup Handicap at Hollywood Park, is the 6-1 choice in the Sprint, which he won in 2000 at Churchill Downs.
Race of the day: Shibboleth, who nearly equaled Belmont Park’s course record for seven furlongs on the turf when winning the Jaipur Handicap on May 27, leads a field of seven in the $100,000 Poker Handicap at one mile on the grass at Belmont.
Who’s hot: Alex Solis. The jockey had two more winners on Thursday to go with his four victories on Wednesday. One of his three mounts on tonight’s card is Pina Colada, one of nine 3-year-old fillies in the $100,000 Flawlessly Stakes.
Who’s not: John Campo Jr. The New York-based trainer is one of 77 in 2002.
Exotically speaking: A pick three singling Anima Mundi in the third, using Red Box, Your Welcome and A Younger Brother in the fourth and Slippery When Bet, Politarium, Good Terms and Margeds Dandy in the fifth.
