From Times Staff Reports
A small sewage spill forced the closure of a portion of Newport Bay on Saturday.
The spill was caused when a pipe in the county’s pump-out station sprang a leak sometime late Friday night or early Saturday morning, said Orange County Harbor Patrol Sgt. Ron Peoples. The county posted signs warning of the health hazard about 8 a.m., Peoples said.
The closure was expected to continue through today, when the pipe was to be repaired.
