Daschle Backs Texas Democrat for SEC Post
- Share via
Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) recommended that President Bush nominate Roel Campos, a Texan who is the son of Mexican immigrants, as a member of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
If named by Bush and confirmed by the Senate, Campos would be the first Latino to be an SEC commissioner.
Daschle recommended Campos to fill a Democratic seat on the five-member commission, in line with traditional practice.
Campos, an attorney, is co-founder, operator and general counsel of El Dorado Communications Inc in Houston. Before starting the company, he practiced law and was an assistant U.S. attorney in Los Angeles.
