Harbor Blvd., Santa Ana Police Sgt. Baltazar De La Riva said.
Officers said Rivera, who was not performing at the concert, ran back into the theater, where he collapsed and later was pronounced dead. “Our place is pretty shook up about this,†said Gary Folgner, who has owned the concert hall for 25 years.
Folgner canceled Wednesday night’s concert.
“We want to take a look at what happened, how it happened and how we can prevent it,†Folgner said.
About 250 customers and 15 security guards watched musical performances by Street Platoon, Ill Fame, Asian Underground and Rhyme Poetic Mafia.
Folgner said a small group of customers began yelling at each other during the concert and eventually went outside. He said he didn’t know what prompted the fight.
Police said that when the victim left the concert hall, he was confronted by two men who opened fire before jumping into a waiting car and fleeing. It was unclear how many people were riding in the car, police said.
“We’ve never had problems before,†Folgner said. “It’s meant to be entertainment and fun.â€
He said the victim was a band member in the group OTW, which did not perform Tuesday night.
A police investigation is continuing.
